First off, thanks for visiting my site! Although I wasn't around for the first-time broadcast of these shows, I appreciate the talent and comedy that Phil Harris and others brought to our great country. In war time and peace, old time radio was there to entertain, inspire, and teach life lessons. Although the comedy was simple, the artists that writers that created these shows were very complex. Whether it was the once a week program or a three to four day a week program (such as The Lone Ranger), actors and writers always seemed to come through with riviting performances that made you feel as if you were there reliving the experience. What a wonderful thing it is to be able to listen to these programs 40, 50, or even 60 years later and relive the magic of OTR.
Everyone has their own story of how they got in OTR. I am sure mine is the same as many others. I was born in 1970. TV, of course, was "it". In the early 80's I caught episodes of "The Jack Benny Program" of TV. The show was funny, simple, and clean. Little did I realize that show would shape my later life.
Years went by and I went through the normal childhood, teenage years, college, and marriage. One day in 2002 I happened to stumble across an old Jack Benny radio show on the internet. After listening to it, I thought it would be neat to collect more of these shows. A year later, I had almost 900 shows with Jack Benny. That wasn't enough! I figured that there had to be more great OTR comedy out there and I was going to find it. Well, to make a long story short, this is 2007 and I have over 85,000 shows (yes, 85,000 !). I average about 7 to 8 hours a day listening to OTR, so I figure, if I don't collect any more shows, it will take me about 48,500 hours to listen to them all! I think I'm up to the challenge.
Thanks again for visiting. Any show ideas for this site are always appreciated. Visit my links page, listen to the shows on the home page, and have fun.
